How do you know what you don’t know? - Issue #8

If you haven't already - check out Datawrapper. The free plan allows you and your students to do all that you will need to do to present data spatially. The building of (info)graphics helps students understand the design decisions being made that impact the interpretation of the outcome.
For all you IB DP Geography educators, I was recently working with a teacher who would tell their students, 'if you can't put the data into Datawrapper it isn't a Geography extended essay'. Not a bad idea!

This weeks share is a nod towards 'Approaches to Learning'. Our students need support with developing their revision skills. The revision focused videos produced by Ali Abdaal are excellent. This playlist is a worth sharing with your students. I am actively building 'Active Recall' preparation time into the lessons and units I teach. The geography team at school have been introducing 'Active Recall' and Anki (more on that in a later issue) with a variety of year groups. It is always great when the students acknowledge how useful it is and tell you how they are also using it in other subjects.
Updates
When I was first resourcing lessons for the 2019 guide I spent quite a bit of time writing 'exam style questions'. Recently, I collected all of these questions into a database that can be accessed (for free) on geographyalltheway.com. Exam style questions can be searched for by unit (and sub-unit), command terms and marks available.

Having somewhere that you keep (and organise) all your bookmarks is critical. I have been using Raindrop.io for a while now - and I like it. I find the fact that you can share (and embed) certain sections of your bookmarks a real benefit. For example here are some sites that I share that offer topographical mapping. You can use it as a team - so maybe a department could use the service to share useful sites and resources. You can access your bookmarks across all your devices with access from all major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) and Web, Windows, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Android apps.
