How do you know what you don’t know? - Issue #9
All Geographers
I have been doing some recent work on 'geographical skills' and therefore thinking about student's exposure to different graph types. Various internet searches kept bringing me to this site → The Data Visualisation Catalogue. Maybe too many adverts for my liking but some useful content and ideas. I hope you find it useful too.
IB DP Geographers
The global spectrum of cultural traits, ethnicities and identities, and ways in which the spectrum of diversity is widening or narrowing at different scales
I enjoy teaching the Changing identities and cultures sub-unit of Unit 5. I found this 'map' interesting, as did my students as we discussed quantifying and mapping culture(s). With questions such as "how is Belgium so culturally close to the USA?" and "are Sweden and Egypt really at cultural poles?" it acted as a great structure for one section of the lesson on the Global spectrum of cultural traits.
Updates
A complete set of resources for the IB DP Geography Geographic Theme - Freshwater.
I review, refresh and sometimes completely restructure the resources on geographyalltheway.com as I teach the content to my students. I have just finished covering the Freshwater unit with my DP1 students so if you haven't checked out that unit recently, it maybe worth a look.
Unit 1 will be next for my attention. My Higher Level students are currently on Unit 5 - so that is getting a polish as we work through it.
Random
This 'Random' section is getting rather eclectic! This week is something I use everyday. It's a simple thing to sort out your keys - but it ensures they take up less space and are less likely to scratch your phone screen and the like. Maybe a little expensive for what it is - but I have had mine for several years now and would replace it with the same should I ever lose it.
