⚙ Operational notes

Five weeks of DP2 teaching left, and a lot is going on! This week's big news is the opportunity to join me on a teacher’s inspection visit to 🇲🇦 Morocco in October with Discover Ltd. More details are below.

🌍 All Geographers

🔗 Data Viz Project - 1 dataset 100 visualizations is a rather super resource where one data set (the number of World Heritage Sites in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, for 2004 and 2022) is presented in 100 different ways. Which method do you prefer? Which is the most engaging? Which generates the most questions?

🔗 Elicit is a research assistant using language models like GPT-3 to automate parts of researchers’ workflows. Currently, the main workflow in Elicit is Literature Review. If you ask a question, Elicit will show relevant papers and summaries of key information about those papers in an easy-to-use table.

I was made aware of 🔗 elicit.org this week, and the opportunities it presents for students (and educators) engaged in the Extended Essay process are exciting.

Type in a potential Research Question and let 🔗 elicit.org start a literature review. The page also presents the opportunity to ‘brainstorm questions’ related to the RQ entered.

⬆ Updates

Are you a geography educator? Have you ever thought about taking students to 🇲🇦 Morocco? If the answer to these two questions is yes - why not join me on an inspection visit to Marrakech, Imlil and the Agafay Desert in October 2023?

As a newsletter reader, you are the first to know about this opportunity! You have a couple of days’ head start.

All ground operations (transport, twin occupancy accommodation, tours and food) in Morocco will be provided by Discover Ltd free of charge. You will just need to pay for and book your flights to and from Marrakech and travel/health insurance.

I am building a page on geographyalltheway.com about this inspection visit and the opportunities presented by taking students to 🇲🇦 Morocco. In the meantime, download this 🔗 PDF, which includes all the necessary information.

👓 Random

The lesson where the students had the opportunity to eat some homemade mealworm brownies went down well, and the images made it to the school’s social channels.
